First Time Surfing? No Worries.

The first time in the sea with a surfboard can be quite daunting but don’t worry our instructors will guide you every step of the way.

We take time on the beach to run through everything you need to know, ready for when you hit the water.

Everyone wants to stand up straight away but the most important thing is learning how to catch a wave and ride it to the beach – the best way to learn is to start off by lying down on the board to ride a wave, this is called Prone riding.  This gives you all the experience of catching a wave and learning the feel of where to position your weight and also how to steer the board once you’re on a wave.

Once you have perfected catching a wave then comes the bit that everyone wants – standing up!!  With all our years of experience we have plenty of tips and tricks to enable you to progress to your feet as quick as possible.  Our coaches can pick up on the slightest mistake and advance you past that and onto your feet in no time!

“First time surfers, but we loved every second! Even managed to stand pretty quick. Wish we had time for a few more lessons but definitely a new passion. Thank you!!!!”

Equipment? We've Got You.

We provide all the specialist equipment; we have a great selection of Softech surfboards that are ideal for learning to surf on, they are wide and have plenty of volume. Staying warm is also important, we know if you are cold you won’t be enjoying your session.  We make sure of this no matter what time of the year as we use Gul wetsuits and can supply gloves and boots for either end of the year. When you are warm and on the right surfboard learning to surf is a breeze.

Location

We meet at the OA surf club beach base which is in Widemouth Bay car park (EX23 0AW) Our trailers are opposite the lifeguard hut in the middle of the car park.  We will have some flags and banners up so you can spot us easily.

Widemouth Bay is a fabulous location to learn to surf, it has consistent waves that are perfect for beginners but also great for perfecting your manoeuvres.  Widemouth Bay is close to Bude but just far enough away to escape the crowds.  It is a long open, sandy beach that has plenty of space for everyone and is a blue flag winner for water quality and facilities.
