16 Things To Do at the Beach

Here at OA Surf Club, we’re lucky to have access to some of Cornwall’s most stunning coastline, including our own private spot at Wanson Mouth and the beautiful Widemouth Bay just a stone’s throw away.

If you’re looking for things to do at the beach, our guide to 16 fun activities has you covered. Whether you want to relax and sunbathe or get active in the Cornish sunshine, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Fishing

At our private beach, there is opportunity to bring your own fishing tackle and cast off the rocks for Dogfish, bass and Rays.

North of Bude there are fishing charters available in the picturesque village of Clovelly.

Snorkelling

In calm seas around Widemouth and Wanson beaches, grab a snorkel and mask and explore the rugged cornish underwater landscape and wildlife.

Sea Pool/Sea Swimming

A trip to the beach wouldn’t be complete without a dip in the sea. In Bude we are blessed with beautiful, clean beaches and our very own sea pool, so lots of choice to cool off in the Atlantic waters.

Surfing

If you’re eager to be active at the beach, why not try a surfSurfing here at Widemouth Bay. OA Surf Club has a team of qualified instructors to get you started.

Coasteering

Surfing not your thing? If you still want to stay active, our coasteering sessions at nearby Bosinney Bay are ideal for a bit of scrambling, traversing, swimming and exploring in the rugged Cornish coastline.

Tug of War

Grab a beach towel and have a mini tug of war challenge.

Barbecue on the beach

Picnic/Barbecue

Pack a basket full of food and a cool box full of drinks and you have a perfect location for a picnic or barbecue on the beach. Try take a reusable barbecue if you are able.

Frisbee

There are lots of things to do at the beach if you are prepared with a few items of beach equipment.

Find an open space on the beach and practice your frisbee skills between friends.

Cricket/Rounders

A leisurely game of cricket always provides fun between your friends and is easy to set up.

Sand castles/forts/animals

Building things in sand is only limited by your imagination.

Beach Clean

Encourage the children to look after the beach environment for generations to come by going on a #2minutebeachclean. You may just find interesting debris washed in from Brazil!

Water Pistol Fights

When its hot on the beach, bring a couple of water pistols and the kids can have endless fun keeping cool, squirting you and each other.

Hole Digging

Who can build the deepest sand hole? Can you find the water level?

Be sure to fill in the hole after your fun digging session or there may be lots of sore ankles on the beach!

Sea Glass Collecting
